Spring Break – West Coast Style

For the most part, the Tingle family spring break consisted of a trip to the Quad-Cities. Woohoo! Now that’s what I call living. Or not. Actually it was nice because we were able see all of the family that we did not see at Christmas. But for the kids, it was worse than boring. It was a slap in the face in front of their friends that sought warmer climates, often with beaches and waves.
Last year was really our first big spring break trip when we took the family, and joined a few other friends, on the beautiful Riviera Maya. It was an awesome trip, and I’m glad we did it for Abbey’s senior year. But I just can’t see doing it every year. Or so I thought.
This year, Peggy and Rachel are going on a cruise with some other families. My mom is going to join them making it a Girl’s Getaway. I’m staying back, and since Abbey can’t go on that trip, I thought she and I could do a dad/daughter trip out west. I enjoy So Cal, and I haven’t been to LA for a couple of years. Abbey has never been to California. Being the ultra-hip young lady that she is, I think it’s only appropriate that she shows LA how it’s done.
Having been to LA a half dozen times or so, I thought that we would see some of the traditional sights, starting with Rodeo Drive. We’ll spend a night at the Roosevelt, because that’s where Lindsay Lohan crashes (in more ways than one) these days. I also want to spend some time down in Orange County, especially the ultra-hip Newport Beach area.
We’ll arrive mid-day Saturday and come back mid-afternoon on Tuesday. With that limited time, what are the “don’t miss” things to do?
